on aspartame

A couple of weeks ago I made the decision to give up Diet Coke, when I learned that Aspartame, the sweetener therein, is linked (anecdotally) to elevated liver enzymes, which I have (or had at the time).
Quitting it hasn't been as hard as I expected, with the addictive properties I believed the drink to have. The only side effect I've noticed is that there is no longer any brightness in my life. I have nothing to look forward to, and to reward myself with.
Ah, well.
Who needs happiness anyway?

Totally right on to give up aspartame.

Check this private study out, if you ever waver.

Thanks for letting me post.

Thanks for the support, anonymous. I'll find out this week if it's helped my liver enzymes at all.
However, I definitely don't approve of the "experiment" you link to, as I see it as a cold, calculating form of animal abuse. Yes, the experimenter allowed the animals to live out their "natural" life spans, but this hardly makes it humane. When we humans ingest a substance like aspartame, we're doing it of our own free will, and knowing that it's probably not good for us. When it's the only source of water for a captive animal, that is cruelty. Their only choices are, quite literally, to consume the poison or to die of dehydration. The results of this are interesting but the methods employed to arrive at these results leave me feeling ill. And something that people seem to fail to take into consideration are the vast differences between the human body and the rat body; animals and humans are DIFFERENT. We all know that such foods as grapes are good for us, but bad for, say, cats. Every species has its own system, its own strengths and weaknesses. For this reason, animal tests, even if they weren't inhumane at their core, are inherently flawed.
